Lionel Shriver (1957) studeerde aan de Columbia University New York en woonde in Nairobi, Bangkok, Belfast en Londen. Als journalist schreef ze voor onder andere The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times en The Economist. Shriver won in 2005 de Orange Prize voor haar achtste boek We Need to Talk About Kevin.
