General Terms and Conditions 1000 Poets

By participating in 1,000 Poets, you agree to the following General Terms and Conditions.

1. About 1,000 Poets

1,000 Poets ties in to ILFU’s mission: to use our festival and platform to show that literary fiction is important for a healthy society, and in each individual’s life. Through the 1,000 Poets project, we will offer a podium to at least 1,000 poetry authors and readers.

2. Participation

To participate, simply sign up using the registration form. By completing the form, you will confirm your participation and state that you have read these General Terms and Conditions. Please note: Your registration is only complete after you have received two confirmation mails at the e-mail address provided: you will automatically receive the first confirmation when you have chosen a date and time slot, and the second after you have completed the entire form. If you have not received a confirmation, please check in your spam folder first. If you still cannot find the confirmation mail, please send us a reminder.

Participation is free of charge. Participants may only participate in one of the 1,000 Poets events between 24/9/23 and 7/10/23. The participant hereby agrees not to sign up for more than one time slot. If the organisation determines that a participant is registered more than once, then the organisation retains the right to cancel the participant’s registration at any time. No rights may be derived from participation in the event.

3. The reading

3a. Time limit: 1 poem, maximum of 2 minutes

Each participant will read one poem, with a maximum duration of 2 minutes. Do not exceed this time limit. With an average reading speed, this corresponds to a poem with a maximum of 35 lines of verse. We will make an exception for extremely short poetry formats with less than 13 lines, such as a Limerick, haiku, aphorism, ollebolleke or aquarium. You may read more than one of these types of poems, as long as you stay within the maximum duration of 2 minutes. If the poem has 14 lines or more, then the reader is expected to recite no more than one poem. Once the maximum time limit of 2 minutes has been reached, the reader will be given a signal telling them to bring the recital to a conclusion. The reader is then expected to finish the current line of verse and end the recital. If the reader does not comply, then the hosts will silence the reader.

3b. Languages

The poem may be recited in the language of your choice. Please keep in mind that some of the spectators will not understand the language, and there are no facilities to project a translation during the performance. If the poem is 14 lines or less, then the reader may also read a Dutch translation of the poem, as long as they do not exceed the total time limit of 2 minutes.

3c. No other equipment

Like Poetry Night, the 1,000 Poets event revolves around the poet’s poem and the reader’s voice. Any other equipment, such as musical instruments, beats or other electronic or acoustic ‘accompaniment’ are not permitted.

4. Livestream

All 1,000 Poets events will be broadcast and shared directly online via livestream. Each performance by each individual reader will also be recorded on video and distributed individually via social media channels. The participant hereby agrees to the livestream broadcast, recording and distribution of the performance. There is no opportunity for editing recordings after the performance.

5. Publication and author’s rights

The organisation retains the right to distribute the submitted poems in text or in the recited form via its own channels and those of the media partners. If a decision is made to publish the poem, then we will notify the relevant poet. Naturally, the poet retains all author rights at all times.

6. Code of Conduct
