Brenda Navarro and Alejandra Ortiz, on how you are perceived as a migrant in Europe

One escaped from Mexico to live in safety as a trans woman; the other sought exile in Spain because she could not continue her work as a writer and human rights activist in Mexico without constant threats.

At Exploring Stories, Brenda Navarro and Alejandra Ortiz, both born in Mexico but settled in Europe, will talk about sexism, femicide, exploitation and class differences, both in their homeland and in Spain and the Netherlands. Their own experiences with emigrating to Europe will also pass the revue. Is it possible to ever become not a migrant? And does emigration actually lead to a better life? Or are you simply moving to a different form of violence? Alejandra Ortiz wrote The Truth Will Set Me Free, a powerful testimony of the struggle and violence that confront women in their homeland, during their escape, and in their new environment. Brenda Navarro recently published Ceniza en la Boca (Ash in the Mouth), a gripping exposé of the painful reality experienced by women in Mexico. De Groene Amsterdammer called it “Damned good!” We dare to predict that their conversation will be the same.
