Devika Partiman, mini-lecture on women in politics (Kamala Harris special)
Seven years ago, Devika Partiman founded Stem op een Vrouw (Vote for a Woman), to fight for more equality and representation in politics. And now she has written an eponymous book. In her mini-lecture, Partiman will deal with the potential symbolic value of a woman as a political leader – and specifically the example of Kamala Harris, a woman of colour who is a political leader in a country that has never had a woman as head of state. But at the same time, Harris is of course an ‘ordinary’ person, whose opinions and policies are open to criticism. This mini-lecture will delve into that tension, which applies to any female political leader.
